Saul Arbest
The body has been positively identified as that of one Saul Arbest, male,63 years of age, hive worker, unskilled laborer certified. Formerly of the Tantalus Indenture, registered habitation: chamber 6/23 stack 717# Coscarla Division, southern zone, Hive Sibelius. Subject found dead on the mid-hive transit rail three days ago as the car returned to the main depot. Preliminary examination at the scene suggested death by drug overdose. Post mortem performed by the biologis forensic, however revealed certain anomies that necessitated our involvement.

The cause of death was in fact total systemic failure brought on by tissue rejection of an implanted synthetic graft organ. Said organ destroyed his central nervous system while attempting to overcome the immune response. In short this crushed the life out of him from the inside. The servo skull displays a sample jar containing a ten centimeter-long whitish cord of waving glassy tendrils, still in motion, still alive. What’s it for? Unknown, but my opinion would be, in a word, ‘control’—neural and synaptic override, perhaps worse.

There were other grafts and surgery of a less singular kind also; one lung replaced by a concealed storage cavity, possibly for his use as a courier. Also, one optic nerve removed, skin flayed from his stomach; I’ve no idea why. His system’s awash with alchemic traces, clotting agents, pan-immune and the like. The surgery was expert, but by the lesions and tissue stresses, I doubt any care was given to whether or not it was painless. In fact, by the damage to his vocal cords, my guess was that he probably screamed as long as he was able to.

The man has no prior criminal record. He was rendered invalid by indenture—laid off if you will, some sixty days ago now and was reported missing thirty-two days ago by his sister, one Lili Arbest, resident of the same habstack. More than enough time to get himself into all sorts of trouble, I’m sure you’ll agree. These grafts are no more than eight or ten days old at most. We have nothing else on him.

Mr. Boomer (Ltn. Daniels)
Seven and half foot tall black muscled narco-gangbanger. Ex-military (guardsmen PDF Tranch). Explosives expert.

Status
Alive: Last seen fleeing Coscarla on foot.

Mood
Group:
Possible vendetta: Atilus killed his friend Churn. But now that he knows they are part of the Inquisition, will probably count himself lucky that he escaped with his life.

Sikes the Reclaimator
He came to Mr. Boomer's medical need (when Wollsey spasmed him), but left quickly thereafter. He paid Jacket a weapon crate of beltfeed ammo to entice them back to his shop. He's a scavenger; of tech salvage and of information.

Status
Dead: Killed by Mr. Boomer for "playing the angles".

Churn
Ex military pyro-bomb nut was staking out Lili Arbest's habcell. Severe burns cover his body, especially his face, which he keeps covered by an old sports mask.

Status
Dead: Killed by Atilus with a point-blank shotgun blast to the head.

Director Sybas Moran
The DIrector of the Tantalus Alms House and public face to the Churgeon, Director Sybas Moran was a Logician who wanted to see humanity prosper through technology and experimentation. He is the mastermind behind the Warden and his Logician Agents providing the "Law and Order" and making narcotic deals with Chord and his gang to cover up their real purpose in Coscarla - body harvesting.

Status
Dead: Inadvertently killed by the Acolytes in the burning Tantalus Alms house.

Preacher Fayban
A middle-aged man with blooshot eyes and an unhealthy odour upon his breath. Clearly lost himself, he holds onto his staff of office to keep himself upright as much as indicate his authority as a member of the Ecclesiarchy. He is the adoptive father of the Nascent Psyker "Jacket" and has called in the Inquisition (explains the presence of Inquisitor Rykehus) to rid his community of his disowned daughter The Witch. He is a member of the Redemptionists, the most extreme of the Emperor Cults, and cannot abide such heresy.

Status
Unknown (presumed dead): Last seen at the foot of his Templum as Coscarla was going into full lockdown to contain the Bacilus Plague outbreak.

"Jacket"
An unsanctioned teenage girl psyker leading a band of orphans in the badlands of the Coscarla Division. Her left hand and forearm is withered black to the bone, a thin layer of charred flesh clings to her bones, but perfectly articulated with long blackened finger nails. She tried to manipulate the Acolytes into killing her adoptive father with false molestation charges. Atilus defused the situation allowing her to escape.

Status
Unknown (presumed alive): Last sign of her was some graffiti on the wall of the Arteria Exit behind the decontamination line. Last seen by Atilus atop a roof as she attempted to throw the switch that would kill her adoptive father, Preacher Fayban.

Mood
Group:
Uncertain - she left in a highly emotional state. They didn't turn her in to the Black Ships. They did save Squirrel from certain death. But they also prevented her killing her adoptive father and could now be seen as the enemy, if she ever suspects who they work for.

"Squirrel"
One of the orphans in Jacket's care. Doesn't look older than six, but speaks with the vocabulary of an adult. Apparently a tech savant with a crazy high IQ. Is said to have got the battle servitor that protects the bunker up and running - with a few parts from Sikes. It turns out that he is an experiment - a deliberate "superhuman" by the Tantulus Combine (the company that pulled out of Coscarla Division). It is uncertain how they have achieved their success, but a side effect is that beneath Squirrel's eye patch is an eye an flesh that is much older than the rest of his tissue.

Status
Alive: Handed over to Inquisitor Soldevan for study aboard the ship The October Sky.

Mood
Atilus:
Particularly likes Atilus which is expressed in a ready smile and eye contact whenever Atilus looks his way.

The Churgeon
Very heavily augmented with cybernetic systems and implants, her only visible living fl esh is the rictuslike mask of skin attached to the metallic skull that houses her living brain. Long since having left sanity behind, she doesn’t recognise her own sadistic and macabre compulsions, believing them to be purely scientifi c in motivation.

Status
Dead: Killed by Atilus in the "Protein Store" room behind the kitchen. He evered her spin with a critical shotgun blast, but her brain was said to still be alive and was collected by Inquisitor Rykehus. It turns out that Inquisitor Soldevan really wants that brain - or something in it.

Bodysnatchers
The Body Snatchers are the result of the Churgeon’s failed experiments in synthetic grafted control organs and made from hive workers stolen in the night. They are partly clad in tattered clothing and their waxy fl esh writhes and pulses unnaturally beneath their almost translucent skins. Their joints and fi ngers have been reenforced with metal bracings to stop their overpowered fl esh from tearing itself apart and their heads have been encased in taunt, stitchedshut masks through which implanted augmetic eyes glow a dull red.

Status
Dead: Killed by the Acolytes in a variety of ways.
